At King Solomon Secondary, we are committed to developing our students to become contributive members of society. We want all of our students to discover the fulfillment that ensues from making a meaningful impact in our community, country and the world at large.
Our Local Impact programme involves volunteer work and projects throughout the year in various organisations. Each grade adopts an organisation or project, where each student can find a way to make a meaningful difference, creating deep and meaningful connections.
Our Global Impact programme takes place throughout the year, and involves weekly classes in relevant skills such as entrepreneurship, robotics, debate and public speaking. The culmination of our Global Impact Programme involves an intensive accelerator week at the end of the year, where we expand our skill sets as our students create “companies” of their own to make real impact. Using the Design Thinking model, our students move from identifying a real world problem to creating a real world solution.
Connecting with the people of our village in Malawi, we are able to deeper understand the “pain”created by the challenges they face. This helps students develop true empathy and channel it into creating sustainable solutions to challenges that they have identified. Through a process of research and exploration, brainstorming and innovation, our students manage to create practical solutions. Our students have already explored challenges such as water and clean energy, and have created some exceptionally innovative products. Our winning team is invited to join us on our annual trip to our adopted village in Malawi, where, in partnership with Innovation Africa, we help to bring solutions to their challenges. During an accelerated entrepreneurial process, each student becomes a leader and a change agent, as they discover the power within to change and influence the world.
